They can't afford to drain the whole pipeline - the old oil (contaminated by temporary storage) would have to be disposed of and replaced with new (pure) stuff which they claim takes months to order (in that volume). The cost of oil replacement would be gigantic given that it is special stuff. They also claimed the down time is costing the costing LA $13,000 per hour. How to fix it and fast?

Mac OS X Ramdisk

Eine Ramdisk sieht für das OS aus wie eine normale Festplatte, liegt aber im RAM und ist dadurch dekadent schnell. Das ist nett für viele Festplatten-intensive Aufgaben wie das Entpacken von dicken Archiven, Videobearbeitung oder einfach nur um anzugeben.

Gelegentlich helfen Ramdisks auch gegen das Beschlagnahmen von Computern durch die Polizei, wie im Falle eines deutschen Tor-Admins 2007. Die Ermittler können keine Festplatten mitnehmen, wenn keine existieren :>

Hier drei Methoden um eine Ramdisk in Mac OS X zu erstellen:

1. Einzeiler

diskutil erasevolume HFS+ "ramdisk" `hdiutil attach -nomount ram://1165430`

Läuft in 10.5+. Die Zahl hinter ram:// ist {Anzahl der MB}*2048.

Praktisch das gleiche, nur mit Parameter für die Größe in MB.

Z.B. als ramdisk.sh speichern, dann chmod +x ramdisk.sh und mit ./ramdisk.sh 512 für eine 512MB Ramdisk aufrufen.
